Barry Walker, of Bethpage, was elected the new Chairman of the Sumner County Democratic Party this past Saturday.
“I’m excited to be leading SCDP because as we enter into a midterm election season, I know there are many people in Sumner County who are as enthusiastic as I am about protecting and preserving our Democratic values,” said Walker.
SCDP held its biennial reorganization Saturday at the Sumner County Administration Building, where new Chairman Walker shared some thoughts on the state of Tennessee politics.
“In Tennessee there is still a persistence to disenfranchise voters, punish struggling families by making life more difficult than they already are based on a child’s school grades, relax regulations on drug suppliers which could result in the type of tragedies recently experienced by Tennesseans after receiving tainted injections, and to make a gun the quick solution to a problem rather than a last resort. We can do better than that as a society and I believe the Democratic values we adhere to can improve our county and our state,” said Walker.
A new slate of Executive Officers was elected, too. Kaye Kemnitz, of Cottontown, was elected Executive Vice Chair. Lexie Smith, of Gallatin, was elected Treasurer. Eric Hall, of Hendersonville, was elected Secretary. Zach Young, of Goodlettsville, was elected Communications Officer.
Regional Vice Chairs were also elected by each region at the reorganization convention. Bonnie Fussell and Gordon Meadors will serve as the Portland RVPs. Larry and Darlene Hodges will serve as the North Sumner RVPs. Dragan Kirjas and Tiffany Rivera will serve as the Gallatin RVPs. Maria Brewer and John Lankford will serve as Hendersonville RVPs.
