April 5, 2011– Democrats gathered Saturday morning at the County Administration Building to elect new officers and to amend the by-laws of the Sumner County Democratic Party.
“I was honored by fellow Democrats to be elected chair of the SCDP and I hope over the next two years we can work to get our message out to the voters of Sumner County,” said newly elected chair Charles Ihrig.
Others elected to office include Maria Brewer, who was elected vice chair. Eric Hall was elected secretary, and Kaye Kemnitz was elected treasurer. Regional vice chairs were also elected. For Gallatin, Len Assante and Charlene Carter were elected. For Hendersonville, Tiger Fitzugh and Tara Greene were elected. For Westmoreland, Bethpage, Castalian Springs, Tom Branham and Barry Walker were elected. For Portland, Vanessa Allbright was elected.
Two amendments to the by-laws were also passed. The first amendment altered the by-laws allowing the chair to appoint additional regional vice chairs to reflect the population and diversity of the region.
The second amendment created the position of communications officer. The position was created with the intention to better communicate the values and happenings of the party. Zach Young will fill the position.
“We need to stop allowing the opposition to speak for us,” said Ihrig. “I believe our party represents the values of our community.”
