Sumner County currently has NO Democrats in office.
The last time a Democrat held office in Sumner County was 2012.
Our elected Republican officials have failed us on many levels. Our cities, counties, and schools have been slow to accept the severity of the COVID-19 crisis, and people are literally dying every day because of the and inactions and poorly thought out actions of our Republican politicians.
This is a war. Physicians are fighting on the front lines. Scientists are exhausting every resource. Casualties litter the battlefield, and the war has barely begun. Many moderate Republicans know this to be true and are looking for a change.
This is our time to rise.
You can join the effort to replace those politicians with leaders, Democratic leaders, right here in Sumner County. While it might be too late to make widespread local changes this November, it’s not too early to start mobilizing for 2022.
In 2022, there are 24 County Commission seats that could potentially flip to Democrat!
Getting Democrats in office at the county level is the first step in flipping the state. We cannot let this opportunity slip through our fingers. We must recruit qualified candidates to run for local office! Yet successful campaigns take resources. As a local party, our goal is to support local Democrats who are considering running for office with an offer to fund their campaign.
To accomplish that goal, SCDP had two great fundraisers planned for 2020; COVID-19, however, cancelled both. The current rate of infections means it won’t be safe for us to gather together for some time, and many of us are coping with reduced incomes, making large-scale fundraising events even more difficult.
We must dream big! But the solution is to think small. If we all sign up to donate as little as $10 (or more) monthly for the next 24 months, we can build a war chest. We can fight against small-minded values and short-sighted policies, right here in our own back yard.
We can recruit candidates. We can win the war.
