Sumner Dems Respond to Nashville Immigration Raids
Statement from Sumner County Democratic Party Chair Megan Lange on Immigration Raids in Nashville
Sumner County, TN - May 4, 2025 - Today, as federal immigration enforcement carried out aggressive raids in Nashville, the Sumner County Democratic Party stands united with our immigrant neighbors.
On the morning of May 4th, a joint operation between ICE and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) resulted in the arrest of an estimated 80 to 100 individuals along Nolensville Road in what has been described as a dragnet.
The Sumner Dems strongly condemn these raids. This was not an isolated incident, but part of a broader pattern of intimidation against local immigrant communities in Tennessee. If THP’s involvement is confirmed, it raises serious concerns about state and local law enforcement being used to carry out federal immigration crackdowns.
“These actions deny the humanity of our friends and neighbors,” said Megan Lange, Chair of the Sumner County Democratic Party. “We believe in a Tennessee where everyone - no matter where they’re from - is treated with dignity.”
The Sumner Dems stand with the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC), which is offering legal support and resources to those affected. If you or a family member were impacted, call 615-414-1030 or visit tnimmigrant.org/rights for more information.
At a Sumner Dems event this evening, Luis Mata of TIRRC Votes called on the community to remain engaged in the fight for justice. “To our immigrant neighbors - we see you, we support you, and we will stand up for you,” Lange added. “Immigrants are welcome here.”
