Elections will be held at the Sumner County Administration building (355 Belvedere Drive, Gallatin) on Saturday, March 29th at 10:00 AM. Doors open at 9:30 AM and re-organization will start promptly at 10:00 AM (so don't be late!).

Pre-register at the link below using your full name as it appears on your voter ID card.

Eligible participants should have a record of voting in Democratic primaries. If your most recent primary ballot in Tennessee is for the Republican Party, you are not eligible to vote in this election. Just moved to town, freshly 18, or unsure about your voting record? Are you interested in running to be a part of the Sumner County Democratic Party Executive Committee? We’d love to have you!

The Executive Committee is composed of 29 members: five officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Past Chair) and 24 district representatives. While our goal is to fill those 24 seats with individuals from each county commission district, the party works on a county-wide basis (not a district-wide basis), so we do our best to fill all seats with geographic diversity.

Nominations for these elected positions are taken on the floor with the following time allocated:

Nomination: 45 seconds
Second to nomination: 30 seconds
Candidate: > 1.5 minutes

Duties for Officers include:

Party Chair: The Chair leads the county party, serves as the public face of the organization, and supports the officer team in running their programs. The Chair leads the executive committee as the primary membership of the county party. The Chair supports each officer and their programs ensuring they have the resources to succeed. The Chair works directly with Democratic elected officials at the state and local levels to advance the party’s agenda.

Vice-Chair: The Vice-Chair assists the Chair in leadership of the party, stepping into the role whenever the Chair is unable to perform their duties. The vice-chair maintains a seat on all committees and acts as an arm of the Chair. The Vice-Chair is a resource to all committee chairs and caucus leaders.

Secretary: The Secretary shall:

  1. Keep the minutes of all Executive Committee meetings and conventions;

  2. Distribute the minutes of each meeting to the full Executive Committee by the Friday before the next meeting to facilitate any needed actions and the approval of the minutes at the subsequent meeting;

  3. Conduct a verbal roll call of all the Executive Committee at every business meeting and keep attendance records for all meetings of the Executive Committee and report to the Executive Committee all instances of excessive absences;

  4. See that all notices are duly given in accordance with provisions of law and the bylaws;

  5. Be custodian of the records of the County Party;

  6. Keep membership records and have general charge of membership books of the Executive Committee;

  7. In general, perform all duties incident to the office of secretary and such other duties as from time to time may be assigned by the Chair or by the Executive Committee, or which may be required by law.

Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for all money management for the party and shall be bonded and insured. This role includes the following:

  1. Have charge and custody of and be responsible for all funds and securities of the County Party, making deposits of any check or cash;

  2. Keep and maintain, open to inspection by any member of the EC at all reasonable times, adequate and correct accounts of the funds and transactions of the County Party;

  3. Disburse the funds of the County Party as may be ordered by the Executive Committee through approved motions;

  4. Present a monthly itemized statement of income and expenditures to the EC;

  5. Register with the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance (TREF) and file any and all reports required by TREF at the state;

  6. Ensure that the Party complies with all Financial regulations set forth by the state.

Minimum Required Duties for Executive Committeemembers include:
- Monthly Board Meeting (approximately one hour a month)
